“17 Ağustos 1999 İzmit depremi”nin 10.yılında,  17 Ağustos 2009 tarihinde İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi tarafından “An overview of the research in the Sea of Marmara region over the last 10 years: 10th Anniversary of 17 August 1999 Izmit Earthquake” konulu uluslararası bir sempozyum düzenlenecektir. Sempozyumda geçtiğimiz 10 yıl içerisinde Marmara Denizi’nde yapılmış deprem araştırma projelerinin değerlendirmesi yerli ve yabancı bilimadamları tarafından sunulacaktır.
